SAN DIEGO –  San Diego State lacrosse players Katy Sharretts, Julia Sheehan, Taylor Sullivan, and Morgan Taylor have been chosen team captains for the 2020 season as announced by ninth-year head coach Kylee White. Sharretts serves as one of the Aztecs' captains for the second consecutive season, while Sheehan, Sullivan, and Taylor earn the nod for the first time.

"The leadership for this year's team is a true reflection of the work these four young women have put both on and off the field," White said. "Their commitment to hard work, daily improvement and positivity is an inspiration to our entire team."

Sharretts shined in her second year as SDSU's starting goalkeeper, earning her second-consecutive All-MPSF selection as well as a nod to the 2019 MPSF All-Tournament team. The Bel Air, Md. native not only broke her own school record for saves in a season, tallying 192 saves throughout 2019, but set the program record for saves in a game (19) during the 2019 MPSF title game. The then-redshirt junior finished the 2019 campaign tied-for-sixth in the nation with her school-record save total while also accumulating a conference-leading 45 ground balls.

In her sophomore year, Julia Sheehan was a standout, collecting 20 points throughout the season while earning MPSF All-Academic honors while holding the team's highest GPA of 3.61. The Glenwood, Md., native started all 18 games for the Scarlet and Black, dishing out a team-high 13 assists during the 2019 campaign to go with seven goals, 17 ground balls and four caused turnovers.

A fellow Maryland native, Taylor Sullivan acted as one of the Aztecs' most consistent players throughout 2019, racking up a career-high 35 goals and 31 ground balls. Sullivan was named MPSF Defensive Player of the Week for the week March 18 after collecting seven draw controls, five caused turnovers, and two ground balls while completing a pair of hat tricks in two home wins against Bucknell and LIU. She ended the year third in the MPSF for total goals (35), fifth in total ground balls (31) and 12th in draw controls (20).

A junior from San Ramon, Calif., Morgan Taylor continued her success as an Aztec, earning MPSF All-Academic distinction for the second year in a row while ranking sixth on the team in total goals (20) and collecting 26 ground balls. Taylor tallied a total of four hat tricks throughout the season including two in the team's season-opening wins over Oregon and California.

The four captains will lead a San Diego State squad that matched its program record with 11 victories during a highly successful 2019 campaign while winning their second consecutive Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship. The Aztecs have 13 talented newcomers joining a SDSU squad that collected seven all-conference awards to go with 14 MPSF Player of the Week accolades in their 2019 championship campaign.

"When I think about this leadership group, I am impressed with how they show up every day, leading by example of what it means to be an Aztec," White noted. "It is great to see our players vote and elect such a selfless group of leaders."
