LOS ANGELES – The Aztec men's soccer team (3-5-1, 0-3-0) lost at UCLA 5-2 Sunday evening behind five goals from the Bruins' Milan Iloski.
The Aztecs scored in the second minute but then saw Iloski score five unanswered goals before SDSU found the back of the net in the 89th minute.
"As much as UCLA earned their result, it's hard to swallow losing 5-2 when we were only outshot 11-8," head coach Lev Kirshner said after the match. "We created three great chances to get back in the game, but the UCLA goalkeeper [Justin Garces] came up huge."
The Bruins managed to put eight of their 11 shots on goal, while SDSU had six of their eight shots on frame.
The Aztecs struck early, scoring 95 seconds into the match when Hunter George put away a Tevenn Roux assist. George (5 goals) and Roux (4 assists) are the team leaders in goals and assists.
UCLA's first two goals came in the first half on assists from Riley Ferch.
The Bruins went up 3-1 in the 65th minute when Milian Iloski scored on an assist from his brother Eric.
UCLA scored twice more, in the 74th and 76th minute. First on an Illoski penalty kick and then Illoski scored his record-breaking goal on an assist from Matthew Powell and Marcony Pimentel.
SDSU got on the board in the 89th minute when AJ Valenzuela finished a Tristan Weber assist.
