COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State volleyball redshirt sophomore Camryn Machado has been named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for a trio of all-round performances at the FGCU Homewood Suites Fort Myers Classic in Florida, Aug. 30-31.

A native of nearby Cardiff-by-the-Sea, California, Machado helped the Aztecs to a 2-1 record at their season-opening event, earning a spot on the all-tournament team after logging three consecutive double-doubles this past weekend.

In 11 sets, Machado averaged 11.55 assists and 3.82 digs while adding six kills with no attack errors, as well as a pair of block assists. In addition, the SDSU setter did not commit a ball-handling error in three matches..

Machado opened the year with 35 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 sweep over Akron last Friday before notching 37 helpers and 10 digs in another whitewash of Bryant, propelling the Aztecs to their first 2-0 start to a season since the 2013 campaign.

In the championship match on Saturday, Machado established career-highs with 55 assists and 20 digs, as the Scarlet and Black dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to host Florida Gulf Coast, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago. She also led all players with five service aces to set another personal-best.

Despite the setback, SDSU still managed to outhit its three opponents by a combined clip of .272 to .143, thanks in large part to Machado's efforts. She also set up teammate Hannah Turnlund, who garnered all-tournament accolades herself after leading the Aztecs with 41 kills over the weekend (3.37/set), including a career-high 24 vs. FGCU.

Machado and San Diego State will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 6, when they play host to West Virginia at the SDSU/USD Invitational inside Aztec Court at Peterson Gym. First serve is set for 6 p.m. PT and the contest will be streamed live by the Mountain West Network.
