SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men's golfer Puwit Anupansuebsai fired a collective 7-under-par 209 to win the Bayonet Black Horse Amateur Championship, held July 6-8 in Seaside, Calif.

The Aztec rising junior carded rounds of 70-72-67 to claim the title by four shots over Dominican University (Calif.) graduate Nick Rivera and Houston rising junior Andrew Gibson, both of whom tied for second at 3-under 213, while fellow SDSU classmate Christian Banke landed in the fourth spot with a 2-under 214.

Aztec rising senior Newport Laparojkit also competed at the fifth annual event, where he tied for 12th at 1-over 217 on the par-72, 6,890-yard Bayonet Golf Course.

Anupansuebsai trailed Banke by two strokes heading into Monday's final round, but vaulted to the top of the leaderboard after draining six birdies against one bogey en route to his decisive 67. Among his conversions were back-to-back drains on the par-4 No. 7 and the par-5 No. 8 to go with another impressive make on the par-3 17th.

Anupansuebsai received all-Mountain West recognition for the first time in his career after leading SDSU with 72.48 stroke average in a team-high nine starts during the 2018-19 campaign.  He also topped the squad with five rounds in the 60s and finished with 11 rounds below par for the season.

A native of Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, Anupansuebsai was the Aztecs' No. 1 golfer in three tournaments, highlighted by a pair of eighth-place finishes at SDSU's own Lamkin San Diego Classic and the Mountain West Championship.
