SAN DIEGO – Behind a complete game shutout by senior right-handed pitcher Justin Goossen-Brown, the San Diego State baseball team opened its three-game series against New Mexico with an 8-0 victory on Thursday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs improve to 32-21 (16-11 Mountain West) on the season. New Mexico, meanwhile, saw its record fall to 21-28-1 (9-16-1).
Goossen-Brown, in his final start at Tony Gwynn Stadium, allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five in his second career complete game. Entering the ninth inning, Goossen-Brown had just two hits allowed over his first eight innings pitched but surrendered a pair of back-to-back singles to start the ninth. After New Mexico's Hayden Schilling flew out to centerfield Aztec second baseman Jacob Maekawa made a full-extension diving catch to his left to record the second out. Goossen-Brown finished his 111-pitch outing after Connor Mang flew out to left to seal Goossen-Brown's shutout.
SDSU started a streak of four consecutive frames with a run after taking the lead in the third with a two-run inning featuring RBI singles by Mike Jarvis and Angelo Armenta.
Jarvis recorded his second RBI base hit of the night in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Bible who hit his eighth double of the season in the previous at-bat. An inning later, Matt Rudick scored on an Angelo Armenta sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-0.
The Aztecs posted three consecutive singles to start the eighth inning and an error by New Mexico allowed Jaden Fein to score. Immediately after, Jarvis drove in his third run of the night on a sacrifice fly scoring Casey Schmitt to bring the score to its final 8-0.
Five Aztecs recorded multi-hit performances tonight, including Rudick, Ryan Orr, Bible, Jarvis and Fein all logging two hits apiece.
Goossen-Brown improved to 6-4 on the year while New Mexico's Drew Gillespie (2-7) took the loss after allowing eight hits, six runs, and four walks in six innings pitched.

- Justin Goossen-Brown's complete game is the Aztecs' first since Goossen-Brown posted a complete game against San Jose State on May 12, 2018.
- Goossen-Brown's nine-inning shutout is the first by an SDSU player since Dominic Purpura threw a complete game shutout against San Jose State on May 19, 2016. It is the first complete game shutout with four or fewer hits allowed by an Aztec since current SDSU graduate assistant, Cody Thompson, allowed four hits in a shutout against San Diego on May 5, 2015.
- Tonight marks as SDSU's first shutout since blanking UNLV, 1-0, on April 27, 2018. It is SDSU's first home shutout since shutting out Fresno State 7-0 on April 22, 2018.
- The Aztecs have won 10 of their last 11 home games for the first time since March 18, 2017 - April 11, 2017.
- Matt Rudick extended his hitting streak to 12, reached base in his 16th consecutive game, reached base in his 24th consecutive home game, and reached base in his 39th consecutive Mountain West game, while recording his team-leading 22nd multiple-hit game of the season.
