Softball Meets San Diego on Wednesday Night

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego State makes the short trip across town to take on San Diego Wednesday night at USD Softball Complex. First pitch between the Aztecs (17-20) and Toreros (18-18) is 6 p.m. PT.
 
SDSU is 54-5 all-time against USD, but will look to avenge a 4-2 defeat last season at home.
 
San Diego State is coming off a series win at Nevada in Mountain West play, including the final two games of the weekend by a combined score of 13-4.
 
Taylor Adams continues to pace the Aztec offense, batting .370 with three home runs, 19 RBIs, 15 runs and six doubles. Shelby Thompson also has seen her average rise over the past few weeks to .322 to go along with a homer, 13 RBIs, nine runs and four doubles, and team-leading marks of 15 walks and a .413 on-base percentage.
 
Katie Byrd (.299, 16 R, 9 RBI, 4 2B), Molly Sturdivant (.290, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 11 R, 8 2B) and Kiera Wright (.283, 24 R, 17-17 SB) also are hitting over .280 for SDSU.
 
The right-handed trio of Marissa Moreno (7-8, 4.00 ERA, 2 SV, 91.0 IP), Alicia Garcia (7-6, 4.08 ERA, 68.2 IP) and MJ James (3-6, 4.81 ERA, 84.1 IP) have done the bulk of the pitching for San Diego State.
 
San Diego is coming off a home sweep over Pacific last weekend, including two-run rule victories by a combined score of 21-4. The Toreros have been particularly effective at home, going 15-7 at USD Softball Complex.
 
Sara Silveyra leads USD with a .390 average, while adding three home runs, 27 RBIs, 25 runs, 13 doubles, a triple and 15 walks, and owning a .630 slugging percentage and a .458 on-base mark. Lindsay Clare (.351, 1 HR, 21 RBI, 12 R, 14 BB, .440 OB%), Taylor Spence (.349, 29 R, 18 BB, .444 OB%) and Sophia Bjerk (.307, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 12 R, 14 BB, .430 OB%) have also been big contributors on offense.
 
Halle Kyler (3-2, 3.89 ERA, 45.0 IP) and Delaney Heller (10-7, 3.90 ERA, 84.1 IP) have almost identical ERAs for San Diego, while Madison Earnshaw is 5-8 with a 4.34 ERA in 82 1/3 innings.
 
Following the Wednesday night clash, the Aztecs welcome San José State for a weekend home series, beginning at 6 p.m. PT Friday.
