COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – Aztec pole vaulter Bonnie Draxler has been named the Mountain West Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. Draxler cleared 14-09.50 at the Jim Bush Legends Invitational at UCLA Saturday to set a new SDSU, Mountain West and meet record.
Draxler's vault topped her previous career best by 3.5 inches and is currently the second-best mark in the nation and tied for the sixth-best mark in the world for 2019. Draxler topped her nearest competition by 10.25".
Draxler also holds the SDSU and Mountain West record for indoor pole vault. She cleared 14-11.50 earlier this month at the NCAA Indoor Championships and to take second place.
This is Draxler's third time winning the Mountain West Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award. She has also won the award four times in the indoor season.
