WOODLAND, Calif. – San Diego State lacrosse midfielder Caitlin Jones (Carlsbad, Calif.) was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Rookie of the Week after a standout performance at UC Davis on April 13.
With her award, the Aztec freshman was selected as the league's top rookie for the second straight week and the fourth time this season, giving the Scarlet and Black 11 conference weekly honors for the year.
In a 16-12 setback to the Aggies, Jones merited her fourth start of the season and led team with four draw controls, as SDSU scored three straight goals to tie the score at 4-4 in the first half after gaining possession on her first three draws won.
In the past two games, Jones has combined for seven draw controls after recording 11 in her previous 12 appearances. The La Costa Canyon High alumna also finished with two shots at UCD last Saturday and tops the Aztec freshman class with 39 shots for the season, which ranks fourth on the team overall.
For the season, Jones also leads the SDSU rookie class with 19 goals, which ranks fourth on the squad. Additionally, she occupies the third spot on the team with nine free position conversions and is fifth with 18 draw controls.
