Broadland earns tryout invite for U-23 National Team

SAN DIEGO  San Diego State sophomore coxswain Hannah Broadland has been invited to participate at the 2019 Under 23 Women's National Team Selection Camp this summer, USRowing recently announced. Broadland is one of six coxswains invited to the women's team tryout.
 
The selection camp for the women's U-23 is scheduled for Sunday, June 9, in Charlottesville, Va. If selected for U-23 national team crew, Broadland will continue on to compete on behalf of the United States at the World Rowing Under-23 Championships, scheduled for July 24-28, 2019, at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota-Bradenton, Fla.
 
The Sacramento, Calif., native has coxed the varsity eight boat since joining the team in the fall of 2017 and has seen great success with her fellow Aztecs and as a member of club and national teams. Last summer, Broadland coxed the women's eight for the Michigan Rowing Association at the USRowing Club National Championships, where she and her crew claimed a national championship. Later that month, she and that same crew competed as part of Team USA at the World University Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, earning a bronze medal in the women's eight final.
 
Broadland and the rest of the San Diego State rowing team most recently competed in the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay, and will return to formal competition this Friday, April 19, with a head-to-head race against UC San Diego. The two teams are set to compete at 7 a.m. on the water at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in San Diego County.
