Aztec Storylines
NEVADA COMING TO AMERICA'S FINEST CITY: San Diego State welcomes Nevada for a three-game series at Tony Gwynn Stadium this weekend. All three games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

Fans in attendance have a pair of giveaway opportunities, as the first 300 fans on Saturday will receive a free SDSU baseball t-shirt and the first 200 fans on Sunday will receive the first set of SDSU baseball cards.

CHAMP VS. CHAMP: SDSU, winners of the 2018 Mountain West Championships, takes on Nevada, the 2018 MW regular season champions.

SDSU, the only team in the nation with five conference tournament championships in the last six years, is 11-15 when playing the defending regular season champion in a season following the year the Aztecs won the tournament.

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE WOLF PACK: SDSU is 18-27 all-time against Nevada, but have won five of the previous nine meetings.

REBOUNDING QUICKLY: SDSU is looking to snap a four-game skid heading into this weekend's series against Nevada.  Despite the recent stretch, the Aztecs are 35-9 over the last three seasons in games following a loss.

EYEING 2,500: SDSU is 30 wins shy of having 2,500 all-time Division I wins. With a 35-win season in 2019, the Aztecs would become the 27th team in the nation to reach the 2,500-win threshold and become just the fourth California program to do so, joining USC, Fresno State, and Stanford.

TEXAS TECH RECAP: The Aztecs faced No. 14/11 Texas Tech over a two-game midweek series this week and fell to the Red Raiders, 5-1 and 12-9 to fall to 5-6 on the season.

Aaron Eden allowed just one run on six hits over five innings pitched in the opener, but the Aztec bats came short with runners on base, stranding a season-high 13 runners in the loss.
The bats performed well in a 4:11 contest on Wednesday, as the Aztecs jumped out to a 5-0 lead partially in thanks to a strong outing from Casey Schmitt (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H) in his first career start. Unfortunately for SDSU, Texas Tech hit a go-ahead grand slam with two outs in the ninth just one frame after SDSU erased an 8-5 deficit to go into the ninth leading 9-8.

Matt Rudick recorded a career-high four hits in Wednesday's loss.

OPENING UP HOME CONFERENCE PLAY: SDSU is 17-7 since 2011 in games during their first home conference series of the season.

WHERE WE RANK IN THE MW: Despite an uncharacteristic 5-6 start, the Aztecs are the only team in the Mountain West to be hitting .280 or better while having an ERA under 4.80.

In the individual leaderboards, Julian Escobedo is third in the league with 13 RBIs and tied for second with two home runs. Escobedo is the only player in the conference with 13 or more RBIs with multiple home runs this season.

Angelo Armenta is second in the league with a .549 on base percentage and seventh with a .378 batting average. Brian Leonhardt stands second in the MW with six doubles this season.
