Aztecs Head to UCLA For Two Days of Competition
The SDSU track and field team will be competing at UCLA this weekend. On Friday, seven distance runners will compete in a total of three events in the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival. The following day, the rest of the Aztecs will be in action for the Jim Bush Legends Invitational. Both meets will take place at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
Friday evening, Caitlyn Couch and Renee Laurenzana will compete in the 1,500m, Paige Comiso and Naomi Smitham will run the 5,000m and Marissa D'Atri, Isabelle Davis and Natalie Regalado will take on the 3,000m steeplechase.
Saturday's meet will begin in the morning at 11:30 a.m. with the shot put. The high jump and long jump begin at noon. The track events get started at 2:30 p.m. with the 4x100m relay where the Aztecs will have two teams competing. The Aztecs will have a full complement of athletes competing.
SDSU Has Strong Performance at Annual Aztec Invitational
This past weekend, SDSU hosted the 41st annual Aztec Invitational. In the invite portion, Nyjari McNeil (800m), Bonnie Draxler (PV) and Callista Fletcher took home first place finishes. Draxler cleared 14-2.00 and currently has the top mark in the nation for the outdoor season. She is coming off a runner-up finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. McNeil finished the 800 in 2:07.20, setting a new SDSU freshman record and posting the fifth fastest time in school history.
In the open portion of the meet, five Aztecs took first place: Callista Fletcher (100m; 11:40w), Nyjari McNeil (400m; 54.43), Danae Dyer (100m hurdles; 13.80), Paige Comiso (5000m; 18:42.78) and Sara Absten (heptathlon group B; 4,719 points).
