SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss against Cal Baptist on Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs fall to 14-10 while the Lancers improve to 17-8.

Michael Paredes posted a quality start on the mound for the Aztecs despite the loss. The freshman hurled six innings and allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven with no walks. Paredes started his outing off with a pair of strikeouts in each of the game's first two frames.

SDSU quickly gave Paredes an early lead to work with, as Mike Jarvis hit first home run of the season in the bottom of the first to put SDSU up 1-0.

With the Aztecs down 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth after CBU posted a two-run third, Chad Bible hit a RBI single to bring Casey Schmitt home and tie up the score 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Lancers broke the tie in the fifth with a Harrison Spohn a solo home run in the fifth. Trailing 3-2, SDSU had an opportunity to score the game-tying and go-ahead runs with the bases loaded and one out. Unfortunately for SDSU, CBU induced a Angelo Armenta foul out to third and a Casey Schmitt fly out to left to end the potential game-changing threat.

The Lancers scored a pair of runs in the eighth to bring the score to its final 5-2.

Jacob McCarvel (2-0) earned the win for the Lancers while Paredes (1-1) was dealt the tough-luck loss for the Aztecs. Adrian Mardueno posted a strong outing out of the Aztec bullpen, allowing just one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings of work.
