Aztecs Back in Albuquerque for Third Meet of the Indoor Season
San Diego State will be competing in their third meet of the indoor season this weekend. This will be their third of four consecutive meets in Albuquerque, N.M. Similar to their last two meets, Friday's competition will begin at 4:00 p.m. MT and Saturday's events will kick off at 9:30 a.m. MT.
On Friday, the Aztecs will be competing in five events. Up first will be a quartet competing in both the high jump and long jump. Freshman Sara Absten and sophomore Asia Smith will continue to prepare for the pentathlon at the Mountain West Championships at the end of the month, while Hannah Taylor and freshman Vanessa Spizewski will also be jumping. At 5:30 p.m. MT Kasey Ebb, Maya Brosch and Lakin Hatcher will run the 400. At 7:15 p.m. MT Absten, Smith, Sakura Roberson and Nyjari McNeil will run the 600m. In the first meet of the year, McNeil set a new school record in this event and Roberson posted the third best time. The Aztecs will wrap up the day with Ebb, Callista Fletcher and Lisa-Anne Barrow competing in the 200.
On Saturday, the rest of the squad will be in action beginning with Smith and Jordyn Bryant in the shotput at 9:30 a.m. MT. Two of the five SDSU pole vaulters will compete at 10:00 a.m. MT, Taylor Alexander and Kaitlin Heri, with Bonnie Draxler, Marissa Berry and Alysia Allen competing later in the day. Draxler set a new SDSU and Mountain West record last weekend and will look to clear 15 feet this weekend.
Smith, Absten and freshman Danae Dyer will be competing in the 60m hurdles. Dyer ran the seventh best time in school history last weekend (8.35). Draxler and Fletcher will run the 60m cash at 12:15. MT. Last weekend Fletcher set a new PR (7.47), good for seventh in school history and Draxler clocked in with an impressive 7.52. Next up will be Jalyn Harris and Nyjari McNeil in the 400m, an event McNeil finished in 54.02 (2nd in school history) last weekend. SDSU will wrap up the day with two squads in the 4x400m relay.

Bonnie Draxler Named to Bowerman Indoor Midseason Watch List
Senior pole vaulter Bonnie Draxler was one of ten student-athletes named to the prestigious Bowerman Mid-Indoor Watch List. Draxler set a SDSU and Mountain West indoor pole vault record last weekend, clearing 14-10.00 (4.52m) at the New Mexico Collegiate Challenge. Her mark is the tenth best in NCAA indoor history and beat her previous school record by over six inches. She currently has the top mark in the nation. For her efforts, Draxler was named the Mountain West's Field Athlete of the Week, the sixth time she has taken home this honor (fourth in indoor).

Track Tidbits
- Nyjari McNeil continued her fantastic freshman season last weekend. She won both the 400 and 800 and both of her times placed her in the top three in program history. She will be competing in the 400, 600, 800 and 4x400m relay this weekend.
- Fellow freshman Danae Dyer beat her PR in the 60m hurdles by 0.01 second last week, the seventh best time in school history (8.35).
- The Aztecs' pole vaulters are ranked No. 8 in the country in the USTFCCA event squad rankings. These rankings take the average best mark of SDSU's top four vaulters. The Aztecs are third among non-Power five schools.
- The Aztecs are in the midst of four straight meets in Albuquerque, essentially their entire indoor season. Following this weekend, they will be back for the Mountain West Championships (Feb. 23-24).
- The 2019 Aztec squad is very young. Of the 48 student-athletes, there are just six seniors and five juniors. There are 25 freshmen, although many of them double as cross country runners.
