COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresh off their fourth Mountain West Championship, the San Diego State swimming and diving team reeled in 30 All-Mountain West awards, the conference office announced on Wednesday morning.
SDSU set three conference records last week, including the 200 medley relay (1:36.76), 400 medley (3:32.28), and Morganne McKennan in the 100 breast (59.50). SDSU also saw freshman Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez win Mountain West Diver of the Meet, becoming the first freshman in league history to win Diver of the Meet. Lechuga Gonzalez was the 1-meter champion, setting a new school record with a final score of 325.55.
Lechuga Gonzalez (1-meter diving, 3-meter diving, platform diving), Courtney Vincent (200 IM, 100 fly, 200 fly), and Klara Thormalm (50 free, 100 breast, 200 breast) led the Aztecs with three all-MW honors each.
Other multi-award winners include McKenna Meyer (200 IM, 400 IM), Kristina Murphy (200 IM, 200 breast), Alma Thormalm (50 free, 100 free), Sammy Geyer (50 free, 100 free), and Elli Ferrin (100 breast, 200 back).
In addition to both of SDSU's conference-record setting relay teams, the 200 free relay team of Geyer, Alma Thormalm, Lizzie Menzmer and Klara Thormalm and the 400 free relay team of Mia Ryan, Menzmer, Meyer, and Peyton Wilson also earned all-MW status.
With several B-cut times set during the Mountain West Championships, the Aztecs are expected to be well represented at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas hosted from March 20 - 23.
