SEATTLE – Playing its first road match of the 2019 campaign, San Diego State was dealt a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Washington Friday inside Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The Aztecs mustered just one victory in singles, falling to 3-4 on the year, while the Huskies break a three-match slide, improving to 3-5 overall.

For the fifth time in seven outings, SDSU was snake-bit in doubles. The pairing of Sander Gjoels-Andersen and Rafael Gonzalez Almazan had their three-match winning streak halted after dropping a 6-3 decision to UW's Jack Davis and Piers Foley on the No. 1 court, while the duo of Arnaud Restifo and Fabian Roensdorf witnessed a 6-2 setback to Kawika Lam and Enzo Sommer in the second spot.

With the doubles point no longer in doubt, the Aztec combo of Jan Kirchhoff and Ignacio Martinez had their No. 3 encounter with Ewen Lumsden and Ernesto Turegano abandoned after trailing 4-3.

The Scarlet and Black was unable to generate any momentum in singles competition, suffering straight-set losses in five of six matches.

Gonzalez Almazan was the first to experience the Huskies' wrath, falling to Lumsden at the No. 5 position, 6-4, 6-3, while Martinez was toppled by Davis in similar fashion on the third court, 6-3, 6-2.

With an insurmountable 3-0 lead safely in tow, Turegano provided UW's clinching point by snapping Kirchhoff's five-match winning streak with a 6-2, 6-3 decision in the No. 4 spot.

Moments later, Roensdorf was victimized by Sommer once again, with the Husky adversary claiming a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the top of the ladder.

Shortly thereafter, Restifo helped the Aztecs avoid the shutout when Restifo knocked off Kasper Smith by a 6-4, 6-4 tally at No. 6; however, SDSU's frustrating day came to a close when Gjoels-Andersen was defeated by Foley in the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 7-6(0).
