San Diego State Welcomes Four Teams for 29th Annual Campbell/Cartier Classic
Coming off a 3-2 weekend, San Diego State opens the home portion of its schedule with the 29th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic this weekend at SDSU Softball Stadium.

On the docket for the Aztecs are Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. PT Thursday, Middle Tennessee (4:30 p.m. PT) and Northern Illinois (7 p.m. PT) on Friday, Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. PT Saturday, and UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. PT Sunday.

The San Diego State University Campbell/Cartier Classic is an annual event held in the memory of former Aztec softball players Susanne Campbell and Karin Cartier. Campbell and Cartier lost their lives during the 1991 softball season in a single-car accident that took place in Rosarito, Mexico. It left a lasting mark on teammates, coaches and the program.

To pay tribute to Susanne Campbell and Karin Cartier, the San Diego State softball team renamed the SDSU Spring Classic in 1994 to the Campbell/Cartier Classic in memory of their friendship and fine athletic ability. The 2019 tournament will be the 29th annual classic.

The Aztecs have five players hitting over .300 for the season (min. 5 plate appearances), including Molly Sturdivant (.385, 2 2B, 1 R), Kiera Weight (.375, 4 R, 4 SB), Kelsey Munoz (.357, 1 HR, 7 RBI), Taylor Adams (.333, 3 R, 3 RBI) and Katie Byrd (.308, 3 R. 3 RBI).

The trio of MJ James (1-0, 5.25 ERA, 8.0 IP), Marissa Moreno (1-1, 5.37 ERA, 14.1 IP) and Alicia Garcia (1-1, 7.41 ERA, 5.2 IP) have combined to pitch in the circle for SDSU.

San Diego State's games against Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. PT Thursday and against UC Santa Barbara at 2 p.m. PT Sunday will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.

Any schedule changes due to weather will be announced on GoAztecs.com.
