In a stretch of three games in seven days, San Diego State hits the road for a Saturday contest at San José State.
This is the first of consecutive road games for the Aztecs. On Tuesday, SDSU will be in Albuquerque to face New Mexico.
The Aztecs and Spartans are meeting for the 74th time with San Diego State owning a 38-35 advantage. The Aztecs swept the series last season and have won nine of the last 10 meetings (9-1), and 24 of the last 35 encounters (24-11).
San Diego State won its second straight game on Wednesday with a 66-51 victory over Air Force. The Aztecs have won their last two games by a cumulative total of 32 points and did not trail at any point during either game.
The San Diego State starting backcourt of seniors Devin Watson and Jeremy Hemsley combined for 29 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in the victory over Air Force. Hemsley was 5-for-7 from the field, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
Sophomore Jalen McDaniels continued his conference most valuable player level play by posting his sixth consecutive double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
The reigning two-time Mountain West Player of the Week award winner, McDaniels has been remarkable over his last nine games, averaging 19.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while connecting on 70-of-131 (53.4 percent of his field goal attempts).
McDaniels has recorded six consecutive double-doubles, surpassing the school record for most consecutive double-doubles in a single season in the Mountain West era. In the last 44 seasons (as far as records are available), Michael Cage owns the school record with eight straight double-doubles set during the 1983-84 season.
Since Dec. 29, 2018 (which includes McDaniels' last nine games), the sophomore is one of only four players in the nation that is averaging 19-10-2 and is shooting at least 50 percent from the field.
San Diego State is looking for its first three-game win streak of the season.
Although currently in sixth place in the Mountain West, SDSU is only 1/2 game out of the fourth position and just one-game back in the loss column of second place.
