Aztecs Back in Albuquerque for Second Meet of the Indoor Season
San Diego State will be competing their second meet of the indoor season this weekend. This will be their second of four consecutive meets in Albuquerque, N.M. Only two Aztecs will be competing on Friday. Freshman Sara Absten and sophomore Asia Smith the high jump (4:00 p.m. MT) and the 600 meter run (7:00 p.m. MT) as they prepare for the pentathlon at the Mountain West Championships at the end of the month.

On Saturday, the rest of the squad will be in action beginning with Smith and Jordyn Bryant in the shotput at 10:00 a.m. MT. Bryant, a freshman from Oakland, had a fantastic collegiate debut two weeks ago. Next up will be the qualifying rounds for the 60m hurdles (10:15 a.m. MT) and 60m dash (10:55 a.m. MT). The Aztecs will have three athletes competing in each event. After the prelims for those events will be the pole vault, where the Aztecs will have five competitors, including Bonnie Draxler who owns both the indoor and outdoor school records. SDSU will wrap up the meet with the 60m hurdle finals (1:25 p.m. MT), the 400 meter run (1:50 p.m. MT), the 60m dash finals (2:15 p.m. MT), the 800 meter run (2:40 p.m. MT) and the 4x400m relay (3:10 p.m. MT).

Need to Know
- Senior Bonnie Draxler set a new school record in the first meet of the year. She cleared 14-3.75 at the UCS Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. to best her previous school record by two inches. Her mark is a new Mountain West record and is currently seventh best in the nation. Draxler also topped her outdoor school record in the annual Red-Black All-Comers Meet back in December (14-6.00).
- Senior Lisa-Anne Barrow will be making her season debut in the 400 meter this weekend. She transitioned to the 400 last outdoor season and ended up winning the Mountain West championship and qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Her best time of 51.86 was the third best in school history.
- A trio of freshmen cracked the SDSU record books in their first collegiate meet of their careers. Nyjari McNeil set a new school record in the 600 meter run (1:30.22) and had the sixth best time in school history in the 800 (2:14.09). Danae Dyer (Temecula, Calif.) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.36, the seventh best time in program history and Jordyn Bryant had the ninth best shotput throw (45-01.00).
- The Aztecs are in the midst of four straight meets in Albuquerque, essentially their entire indoor season. Following this weekend, they will be back for the Don Kirby Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 8-9) and then the Mountain West Championships (Feb. 23-24).
- The 2019 Aztec squad is very young. Of the 48 student-athletes, there are just six seniors and five juniors. There are 25 freshmen, although many of them double as cross country runners.
