SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State swimming and diving team splits for the weekend, with the San Diego State swimmers seeing action across town at the University of San Diego and the SDSU divers participating in the UCLA Diving Invitational. SDSU's swim-only dual meet at San Diego is scheduled for Friday at noon, while the UCLA Diving Invitational at the Spieker Aquatics Center begins on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m.
SDSU finished its 2018-19 home schedule last week, claiming 13 of a possible 14 first-place times in a 143.5 - 139.5 win over Fresno State. Alma Thormalm led the Aztecs with a pair of first place finishes, claiming both the top spot in the 50 and 100 free. The win for SDSU upped the Aztecs record to a perfect 11-0.
Last year in the UCLA Diving Invitational, Delaney Gallagher finished in the top 25 of both the 3-meter (233.60) and 1-meter (249.50).
SDSU opened the 2018-19 season at home against San Diego, where it won its eighth consecutive season-opening pentathlon meet against the Toreros. McKenna Meyer led all swimmers in the pentathlon, claiming the first-place spot by nearly a four-second margin at 4:54.93. Over the course of his career, head coach Mike Shrader is a perfect 22-0 against USD.
Following this weekend, the SDSU divers will compete in the Northern Arizona Diving Invitational on Feb. 1-2 in Flagstaff, Ariz., while the SDSU swimmers will wrap up dual-meet competition for the 2018-19 season on Feb. 2 in Los Angeles against Loyola Marymount.
