MALIBU, Calif. – The San Diego State swimming and diving continued its successful start to the 2018-19 season on Thursday afternoon, defeating Pepperdine, 71-53, at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool.

The SDSU divers saw their first action of the season and were led by Marie Yacopino, who posted a meet-best 291.45 on the 1-meter board. Ximena Lechuga (282.35) and Emily Reed (365.50) recorded the second-best and third-best scores of the meet, respectively, to round out SDSU's top three. Lexi Letts and Delaney Gallagher finished just behind their teammates, recording scores of 236.00 and 233.45.

The Aztecs took each of the top three spots in the 200 medley relay. Alma Thormalm, Larisa Tam, Lizzie Menzmer and Cathy Cooper teamed up to post a first-place time of 1:47.13, while McKenna Meyer, Caitlin Delaney, Mia Ryan, and Anna Stahlak finished in second with a time of 1:49.51.

SDSU claimed the top time in all four sprint races. Courtney Vincent (25.43), Elli Ferrin (26.84), and Sammy Geyer (27.50) claimed each of the top three spots in the 50 fly, while Larisa Tam claimed the top spot in the 50 back (27.75). Ferrin posted another top-two time in the 50 breast, scoring first with a time of 31.46.

Aztecs claimed each of the top four spots in the 50 free, led by Alma Thormalm's time of 24.17. Lizzie Menzmer, Peyton Wilson, and Mia Ryan followed Thormalm with times of 24.38, 24.43, and 24.65, respectively. 

SDSU finished the meet with both of its relay teams posting the two best times in the 200 free relay. Ana Roman, Klara Thormalm, Caitlin Delany and Cathy Cooper collectively recorded a time of 1:39.26, finishing just 1.5 seconds ahead of their teammates Andy Felix, Peyton Wilson, Kendall Bennett, and Sammy Geyer.

- San Diego State improves to 5-0 against Pepperdine in dual meets over the last three seasons.
