SAN DIEGOÂ -- Recent San Diego State graduate Mackenzie Lech (Milton, Ga.) was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll for the 2017-18 school year. In addition, the Aztecs were one of 103 Division I teams to be recognized as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.
With her award, Lech merited IWLCA academic distinction for the second straight season after landing on the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) all-academic team for the third year in a row.
To be eligible for IWLCA academic consideration, individual candidates must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. In all, 462 student-athletes representing 102 NCAA Division I institutions earned spots on the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll this year.
Lech, who completed her degree from SDSU in marketing, posted 25 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers during her senior campaign, helping the Scarlet and Black claim its first-ever MPSF conference championship last April. For her efforts, the Aztec defender also collected all-MPSF honors for the second straight season and was named to the MPSF all-tournament team.
A native of Milton, Georgia, Lech amassed 72 ground balls during her collegiate career, which ranks fifth on the school's all-time charts.
Collectively, San Diego State was tabbed an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad for the third time in program history (2014, 2016, 2018) after recording a team GPA above the 3.0 prerequisite last year.
The Aztecs completed their finest campaign to date in 2018, logging a program-record 11 wins, punctuated by their aforementioned MPSF title. In addition, SDSU garnered seven all-MPSF honors to go with 15 conference player of the week awards.
