SAN DIEGO - San Diego State had eight student-athletes earn 2018 Golden Coast Conference All-Academic honors, the GCC announced on Friday morning. The eight honorees tie the program record for the most in the GCC era and the most in school history regardless of league affiliation.
To land on the all-academic list, student-athletes must be a full-time student, completed two terms, play in more than 50 percent of their team's games and hold a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Recognized by the Golden Coast were Emily Bennett, Lizzy Bilz, Karli Canale, Maura Cantoni, Lucia Carballo, Hannah Carrillo, Shelby Kraft and Paola Vizcarra. Bilz, a recent graduate, earned her third straight academic award, while Carrillo picked up her second in a row after a junior season in which she finished second on the team in goals.
Senior Vizcarra, junior Cantoni, sophomore Kraft and freshmen Bennett, Canale and Carballo, meanwhile, captured their first career awards.
The Aztecs finished the 2018 campaign ranked No. 20 nationally.
