SDSU Notes vs. Utah State

San Diego State Welcomes Utah State in Series Finale
San Diego State looks to close its season on a high note when it welcomes Utah State for a weekend series at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (17-31, 8-13 MW) and Aggies (18-31, 7-14 MW) will play at 6 p.m. PT Thursday, 6 p.m. PT Friday and 11 a.m. PT Saturday.

SDSU has historically finished its season strong. Over the last 10 seasons (since 2008), San Diego State is 21-4 (.840) in its final regular-season series of the season, including a 9-1 record (.900) in its final game of the regular season. The Aztecs have been even better at home, going 23-4 (.852) over their final regular-season series at home and posting a perfect 10-0 record in its final home game of the year.

SDSU is coming of a 2-1 series loss at New Mexico, where it outhit the Lobos, 33-18, but left 33 on base to UNM's 11.

San Diego State has been streaky this season. The Aztecs opened their season 1-8, then won seven of nine games (7-2) with a pair of victories over nationally ranked teams. Since the 6-2 win over then No. 21/20 Minnesota on March 2, however, the Aztecs have gone 9-21.

Out of SDSU's 31 losses on the season, 22 have been by three or less runs and 14 by two or less runs. Altogether, San Diego State has six extra-inning losses, four with the international tiebreaker rule in effect, seven by one score, seven by two runs and eight by three scores.

Following Saturday's will be a ceremony honoring the Aztecs' five departing seniors Alex Formby, Iesha Hill, Zaria Meshack, Jenavee Peres and Taylor Stewart.

Katie Byrd and Kelsey Munoz each lead SDSU with a .312 average, while Munoz (.339), Stewart (.333), Shelby Thompson (.323) and Kiera Wright (.309) are all above .300 in MW play.

Formby (10-12, 2.60 ERA, 129.0 IP) and Marissa Moreno (4-16, 3.49 ERA, 142.1 IP) have done the bulk of the pitching for San Diego State.
