SAN DIEGO - T-No. 21 San Diego State dropped a 15-5 decision on a breezy and partly sunny Sunday afternoon to fifth-ranked Hawai'i at Aztec Aquaplex. The Aztecs fall to 7-10 on the season and the Rainbow Wahine improve to 16-3.
UH scored the first six goals of the game with four coming in the first quarter. SDSU freshman Emily Bennett stopped the scoring run with a second-period goal, but the Rainbow Wahine tacked on two additional goals to lead, 8-1, at halftime.
Hawai'i enjoyed a 12-1 lead deep into the third quarter when senior Malia Magro dented the scoreboard for the Aztecs. Both teams played out remaining 1:48 of the frame as the game moved to the fourth where SDSU narrowed its deficit.
After the Rainbow Wahine scored less than 90 seconds into the final period, the Aztecs started to get on a roll, receiving goals from Bennett and Delaney Parks. UH got one of the goals back, but Casia Morrison answered with SDSU's fifth goal of the day. Hawai'i added a final goal with 22 seconds left to provide the final margin.
NOTE
Freshman Emily Bennett has scored multiple goals in all three Aztec Invitational games and now has 11 multiple-goal games this season, which is the most on the team.
