NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - No. 14 San Diego State put together a second-half rally to force overtime, but could not complete the comeback, falling to T-No. 19 CSUN, 10-9, Sunday morning at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

The morning started off on a promising note as the Aztecs led, 2-1, after one quarter of action. Things quickly went awry in the second period with SDSU failing to get on the scoreboard and the Matadors finding their rhythm, scoring three times to take a 4-2 lead at halftime.

San Diego State came alive in the third frame with four goals and the defense began to tighten up despite allowing three goals. Entering the final eight minutes, SDSU was faced with a 7-6 deficit, but came up with the necessary effort to level the score at 8-8 to force overtime.

The Aztecs (5-8) gave up a goal in the first three minutes before the teams switched ends. SDSU knotted the score, but CSUN converted a penalty shot, which ended up being the game-winner.

NOTE I
Hannah Carrillo led the Aztecs with three goals to log her team-best third hat trick of the season. The junior now has four career games with at least three scores.

NOTE II
San Diego State's senior class was responsible for eight of the team's 16 steals. Co-captain Lizzy Bilz had a team-high four thefts, Katrina King had three and Malia Magro contributed one.

NOTE III
Maura Cantoni had 12 saves, which was her second double-digit save performance of the tournament. She now has four games this season with at least 10 stops.
