SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's basketball team has set a program record for season attendance. With two home games still remaining, the Aztecs have had 21,142 fans through 14 games for an average of 1,510. This breaks the total and average attendance records set in 2007-08, when the Aztecs drew 14,730 fans for an average of 1,133 per game.
"I love how the community has got on board and is interested in what we are trying to build here," Head Coach Stacie Terry said after last Wednesday's Fresno State game which had 4,306 fans for "Field Trip Day." "It was my personal goal this year to reach out to the community and get more involved and I think that has been paying off in our attendance. I'm super excited about that."
The Aztecs have had three home games with at least 4,000 fans. Their January 27th game against UNLV for National Girls and Women in Sports Day brought 4,568 fans to Steve Fisher Court, the Aztecs biggest crowd since drawing 5,271 against No. 2 UConn December 21, 2007.
After road games at Wyoming (Feb. 14) and UNLV (Feb. 17) this week, the Aztecs will host Air Force (Feb. 21) and San José State (Feb. 24) to wrap up their home season.
