San Diego State track and field head coach Shelia Burrell has announced the schedule and competing teams for the 40th annual Aztec Track and Field Invitational. The three-day meet, which will take place from March 22-24, will once again feature some of the top collegiate teams and athletes in the country.
The Aztec Invitational will also include open, invitational, master, Paralympic and high school competition. The entire meet will take place at the Aztrack on the SDSU Sports Deck except for the men and women's hammer throw and javelin throw, which will take place on the campus of UC San Diego in nearby La Jolla on the morning of Friday, March 23.
The Aztec Invitational will host some of the best teams on the West Coast and numerous Division I schools, including Oregon, UCLA, Oklahoma, Arizona, Utah, Air Force and others. Additionally, many of the area's universities, junior colleges and high schools are expected to join the competition.
"We are excited to once again host such a high caliber field for the 40th Aztec Invitational," Burrell said. "This will be our second year of the invitational on our new Mondo track and we are looking forward to see some big early season marks from a strong field of teams."
The multi-events kick starts the meet off on Thursday, March 22 with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. On Friday, March 23 will be the aforementioned hammer and javelin at UCSD, while the open competition and the final day of the multi-events will take place at SDSU. Friday evening, meanwhile, is the distance carnival, which will also include a National Federation of the State High School Associations (NFHS) sanctioned high school mile. The invitational and high school sections as well as mixed wheelchair events will wrap up the meet on Saturday, March 24.
