SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State swimming and diving team topped UC San Diego, 157-132, and Pepperdine, 189-90, in a dual meet at the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday afternoon. With the dual-meet victory, the Aztecs extend its dual meet winning streak to 19.
SDSU started its afternoon off finishing in first and second in the 200 medley relay. Alexa Clayfield, Caitlin Delany, Courtney Vincent, and Alma Thormalm combined for a time of 1:45.63, while the quad of Elliyana Ferrin, Morganne McKennan, Klara Thormalm, and Summer Harrison teamed-up for a second-place time of 1:47.70.
McKenna Meyer continued her successful 2017-18 campaign, posting a first-place time of 1:52.65 in the 200 free. In the next event, Courtney Vincent kept up the Aztecs' winning ways, recording a 58.10 in the 100 back for first place.
SDSU took home three of the top four spots in the 100 breast, as McKennan, Delany, and Rachel Cunningham posted scores of 1:04.42, 1:05.60, and 1:06.06, respectively. The Aztecs used similar efforts in the 200 fly and 50 free, with Frida Berggren (2:04.85) and Rachel Kelch (2:07.52) finishing first and second, respectively, in the 200 fly, while Alma Thormalm (23.88) and Larisa Tam (24.25) collected the top two spots in the 50 free.
Peyton Wilson finished in first place in the 100 free, using a time of 51.99. Berggren notched her second first-place finish of the day in the 200 back, grabbing a time of 2:07.31. McKennan followed up Berggren's efforts with a time of 2:20.95 in the 200 breast to notch SDSU's ninth first-place time of the day.
In exhibition action, Courtney Vincent posted a pair of meet-best times, including a 55.75 in the 100 fly and a 2:09.45 in the 200 IM.
The SDSU divers were led by Alexandra Caplan, who posted a pair of NCAA-qualifying scores, including a 325.20 in 1-meter competition, and a 315.15 in 3-meter action. The Aztecs collected each of the three top 1-meter scores, including Delaney Gallagher's 255.38 and Marie Yacopino's 250.35.
SDSU now sees a three-week hiatus from competition and will pick things back up on Dec. 22 in a home double dual meet against Air Force and Cal Poly.
