SAN DIEGO -

Meet Flier

San Diego State will host its annual Red-Black Intrasquad and All-Comers Meet on Sat., Dec. 9 on the Aztrack Sports Deck. The meet kicks off at 10 a.m. with the pole vault and high jump, while the running events get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the men and women's 4x200 meters relays using a rolling schedule.

"The Red-Black meet signals the start of San Diego State's indoor track campaign," said head coach Shelia Burrell. "The Aztecs took third at last year's indoor Mountain West Championship are on track for a 2018 championship. Our goal is to compete to the best of our abilities and earn championship wins. This meet gives us the opportunity show the campus, community, alumni, families and friends how talented we are and what's in store for the upcoming season. The cool part for the community is that everyone is allowed to compete side by side with the Aztecs."

For the seventh consecutive year, the Red-Black meet will be USA Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned, allowing youth, high school, junior college, university (including San Diego State students), alumni and masters competitors of all ages to participate an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability.

The meet will also be the first in the 2017-18 USATF San Diego-Imperial Association Winter Track Classic Series. The meet will feature discounted on-line pre-registration. The competition will include Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers (especially masters) must bring their own implements. Over 350 athletes competed at the meet in 2016.

The annual meet also serves as an intra-squad competition for SDSU. The Aztecs are split into red and black teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.

All competitors will pay their entry fees at the gate. However, those who pre-register online by the deadline will receive a discount. Online, preregistered athletes are $10 for unlimited events payable by cash or check. Pre-registration on Athletic.net can be made at this link: http://tinyurl.com/2017Red-Black

Online registration closes on Weds., Dec. 6 at midnight. Registration is also available the day of the event for $15, payable by cash or check, for unlimited events.

Spectator admission is free.

Proceeds benefit the San Diego State Track and Field/Cross Country programs.
