SAN DIEGO - Six San Diego State water polo student-athletes landed on the 2017 Golden Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday. The six Aztecs represent the second-highest total in school history, trailing only 2015's eight honorees.

Lizzy Bilz, Hannah Carrillo, Alyssa Diacono, Courtney Jarvis, Katy Schneider and Mikayla Vessey all carried at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.00 scale, played in a minimum of 50 percent of SDSU's games and were classified as full-time students.

Bilz (twice), Diacono (four times), Jarvis (twice), Schneider (twice) and Vessey (twice) have all earned a spot on the GCC all-academic team multiple times.

The conference academic awards come 12 days after Bilz, Diacono, Teesa Heidari, Schneider and Vessey were recognized by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Diacono was named to the 2017 All-Academic Outstanding Team (4.00-3.71) for her efforts this past academic year, while the quartet of Bilz, Heidari, Schneider and Vessey were Excellent Team honorees (3.40-3.20).

The Aztecs in 2017 won their fourth straight Golden Coast Conference regular-season title, going 7-0 in the process and ran their all-time GCC record to 26-0. SDSU finished the year ranked No. 13 in the final top-25 poll, its highest final ranking since 2013.
