In the opening day of the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays Heptathlon, hosted by Azusa Pacific, SDSU track & field senior Kassidy Ellis is 14th after four events.
With four of the seven events completed, Ellis has amassed 2,911 points. Angela Whyte, a three-time Olympian for Team Canada, currently leads all competitors with 3,524 points.
Ellis began the heptathlon by running a 14.74 in the 100-meter hurdles, taking 13th. She followed that up with a 15th-place finish in the high jump, recording a five-foot, 1.75-inch mark. In her first appearance this year in the shot put, she recorded a 33-foot, 10.75-inch throw, the 15th-longest mark. Her day was capped with a 26.16 time in the 200, finishing 16th.
Ellis starts her day tomorrow with the long jump at 1 p.m. The javelin is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., while the heptathlon will wrap up with the 800 meters at 4:30 p.m.
Additionally, six Aztecs will open competition tomorrow at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Athletic Stadium. The meet begins for SDSU with the 5,000 meters (first heat begins at 2:20 p.m.) and the steeplechase (5:20 p.m.).
