FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - For the second straight day, junior Alexandra Caplan led a contingent of four San Diego State divers as she advanced to the finals of the 1-meter springboard event at the Zone E Championships being hosted by Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Caplan found herself in 17th place at the end of the preliminary round of six dives with a score of 256.00. As one of the top 18 of the 51 athletes competing, she moved on to the afternoon finals where she scored a 291.70 for a total mark of 547.70, allowing her to capture 13th place.
The 1-meter event was won by UCLA's Maria Polyakova with a score of 656.15. Polyakova had won the 3-meter board in Monday's competition.
Three other Aztecs also competed on the 1-meter springboard on Tuesday, but were unable to advance out of the prelims. That trio included freshman Marie Yacopino (249.70 - 24th) along with juniors Nicole Dutton (210.80 - 45th) and Payton Gabris (208.85 - 46th).
Action wraps up at the Zone E Diving Championships on Wednesday with the platform board. Prelims will get underway at 11:00 a.m.PT with the finals at 1:35 p.m.
