SAN DIEGO -
San Diego State track and field head coach Shelia Burrell has announced the schedule and entry information for the 39th annual Aztec Track and Field Invitational, Open and High School Meets. The two-day event, which will take place from March 24-25, 2017 at the Aztrack Choc Sportsman Oval on the SDSU Sports Deck, will feature some of the top professional, collegiate and high school athletes in the sport.
"This Aztec home meet, which is really three meets in one, is a great way to kick off the 2017 outdoor track and field season here in San Diego," Burrell said. "We always schedule our meet to be the weekend right after the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships so that everyone is ready to hit the oval running."
The meet kicks off on Friday. The Invitational and Open throwing events will be held on the UC San Diego campus in nearby La Jolla, Calif., while the Open competition field and track events will take place at SDSU. On Friday evening, the Invitational, Open and High School distance carnival will be competed under the Choc Sportsman oval lights. The main Invitational and High School Meet will wrap up the competition on Saturday.
"Our objective for this meet is to be an athlete and coach friendly season opener with quality competition," Burrell said. "Last year, we had a record number of teams as well as a record number of athletes compete. Meet records were set in the Men's 400 meter hurdles and the Women's Javelin."
This will be the first meet competed on the newly resurfaced track Mondo Track.
