The San Diego State track and field team hosted another successful Red-Black Intrasquad/All-Comers Meet on Dec. 3 at the Aztrack Sports Deck. This USA Track and Field sanctioned meet was the first the USATF San Diego-Imperial Association Winter Track Series. Competing at the meet, which featured beautiful weather, were 358 athletes, besting last year's record 341 competitors.
In addition to providing the local track and field community an opportunity to compete side-by-side with NCAA Division I athletes, the meet is the debut of the 2017 Aztecs. The San Diego State squad was broken into Red and Black teams that competed for bragging rights heading into the winter break and indoor track and field season. This year, the Red Team won, 75.5 to 54.4.
SDSU wins for the day came from Bonnie Draxler in the pole vault (13-00.00 (3.96m)); Micha Auzenne in the high jump (5-03.75 (1.62m)), 60-meter dash (7.38 +2.1), and 60-meter hurdles (8.35 +1.2); Rachel Alesi in the shot put (47-11.25 (14.62m)), and discus throw (166-01 (50.62m)); Freja Liljedahl in weight throw (46-05.25 (14.15m)); Melody Harris in the javelin throw (138-01 (42.10m)). Ashley Henderson in the 150m dash (17.34 +0.6); Monique McPherson in the 600m run (1:32.62); Ellison Grove in the 1,000m run (2:52.69); and, the Black 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Andrenette Knight, Tyra Lea, Lisa-Anne Barrow, and Lakin Hatcher, in a time of 3:49.41.
The Aztecs are well-prepared and have their sights set on Mountain West Indoor and Outdoor Championship championships. SDSU officially kicks off its 2017 Indoor Season campaign at the University of Washington Preview meet in Seattle on January 14.
