SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team participated in the San Diego Fall Classic this morning where they saw boats in the top two spots in each race. The regatta was hosted by the San Diego Rowing Club on Mission Bay.
SDSU participated in both the women's open eight as well as the women's novice eight on Sunday. For the three boats in the open eight event at 7:30 a.m., the Aztecs placed in the second, fourth and tenth spots with the `A' boat at 16:53, SDSU `B' at 17:34 and the `C' boat finishing in 18:54. The Aztecs had noteworthy improvement on the long course in their proximity to first-place finishers University of San Diego, trailing the Toreros by a mere 16 seconds, compared to the Row for the Cure finish where the 'A' boat trailed USD by 34 seconds. Another notable change for the 'A' boat includes the lineup alteration, with Isabell Paul moving to the stroke seat. SDSU also showed improvement from the Row for the Cure regatta to the Fall Classic with the 'A' and 'B' boats passing up both Orange Coast College and UC Santa Barbara.
In the novice eight, SDSU showed its team depth when its two boats came in with the first and second-best times, with the `A' boat finishing in 19:26 and the `B' boat shortly behind at 19:38. Noted competitors the Aztecs passed up in the novice eight include the University of Southern California, Arizona State and OCC.

SDSU will take a break from competition for the rest of the fall and return in 2017 for their first spring event with the OCC/UCSD/USD scrimmage on Feb. 18.
