The San Diego State swimming and diving team finds itself in second place among the six teams competing at the Chick-fil-A Invitational being hosted by Fresno State. The Aztecs point total (477.5) trails Boise State (587) at the competition that features five teams from the Mountain West.

The remainder of the standings include Nevada in third place (362), Fresno State fourth (275.5), San Jose State fifth (255) and Cal State Bakersfield sixth (143).

A trio of Aztecs picked up first-place finishes in their events on opening day of the Invitational. Frida Berggren captured the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.74. She also took second in the 400 individual medley with a mark of 4:26.48.

Freshman McKenna Meyer was victorious in the 400 individual medley (4:22.03) and also placed third in the 500 freestyle (4:58.73) as SDSU's top finisher in that race. Her time in the 400 IM goes into the SDSU record book tied for the eighth-fastest mark in program history.

Fellow freshman Morganne McKennan was the winner of the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:04.75.

San Diego State also turned in runner-up finishes in a pair of relays.

In the 200 medley relay, the foursome of Alexa Clayfield, McKennan, Summer Harrison and Peyton Wilson clocked a 1:44.96 to place second.

The Aztec quartet of Wilson, Alma Thormalm, Cailey Steffens and Samantha Guttmacher went 1:35.22 in the 200 relay to finish second in that event.

SDSU's top finisher in the day's lone diving event, the 3-meter springboard, was Alexandra Caplan who turned in a score of 249.35 for a seventh-place result. Freshman Marie Yacopino was close behind, placing ninth of the 25 divers with a mark of 237.10.

The final six events of the Chick-fil-A Invitational will take place on Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 10:30 a.m. with the 400 medley relay. A total of seven swimming events along with the1-meter diving will be contested to conclude the meet.
