The San Diego State track and field team will host the annual Red-Black Intrasquad and All-Comers Meet on Sat., Dec. 3 at SDSU Sports Deck. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m. with the pole vault and high jump, while the running events will kick off at 10:30 a.m.
"The Red-Black Meet serves as a great kickoff to the winter track season," SDSU head coach Shelia Burrell said. "Competing alongside our supporters, the student body, alumni and the community is always thrilling for our student-athletes. We're excited about the prospect of building upon the recent success we've had both indoor and outdoor, and showcasing our team at the meet will be a great lead in to what we expect will be a promising season."
For the sixth straight year, the Red-Black Meet will be USA Track and Field (USATF) sanctioned, allowing youth, high school, junior college, university (including SDSU students), alumni and masters competitors of all ages to participate an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability.
The meet will also be the first in the 2016-17 USATF San Diego-Imperial Association Winter Track Classic Series. The competition will include Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers (especially masters) must bring their own implements. In 2015, 341 athletes competed at the meet.
The annual meet serves as an intra-squad competition that will split the 2017 Aztecs into red and black teams which compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.
Competitors who preregister online by the deadline of Weds., Nov. 30 at midnight will receive a discount. Registration for athletes preregistered online is $10 for unlimited events payable by cash or check. Preregistration on Athletic.net is available here: http://tinyurl.com/2016Red-Black.
Registration will also be available the day of the event for $15, payable by cash or check, for unlimited events. Proceeds benefit the San Diego State Track and Field and Cross Country programs.
