MALIBU, Calif. -- The San Diego State men's tennis team picked up four singles victories and added a triumph in doubles on Friday at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships presented by Oracle on the campus of Pepperdine University.

Sander Gjoels-Andersen (Klampenborg, Denmark) advanced in the main draw singles bracket after disposing of UCLA's Max Cressy by a 6-4, 6-4 count in the round of 32. With his conquest, the Aztec sophomore will square off against another Bruin adversary Daniel Gealer on Saturday in the round of 16.

Conversely, senior Marko Goles-Babic (Zagreb, Croatia) was unable to duplicate the feat of his SDSU teammate, yielding to eighth-seeded Thibault Forget of USC, 6-1, 6-1, in another round of 16 encounter. Junior Milen Ianakiev (Elz, Hesse, Germany), who experienced an untimely opening-round exit on Thursday, fared much better in consolation play, slipping past UC Irvine's Vatsal Bajpai, 6-1, 7-6(3), before posting a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Christian Cajigan of Hawai'i.

In addition, freshman David Hough (Traralgorn, Victoria, Australia) stayed alive in the consolation bracket after toppling Grand Canyon's Luiz Leonardo Andreolli, 6-2, 7-6(2). However, fellow classmate Joel Popov (Tampere, Finland) was not as fortunate, falling to another GCU opponent Justin Cvitanovic after a closely contested second set, 6-1, 7-5. Meanwhile, sophomore Santiago Cevallos (Queretaro, Mexico) found himself locked in a tight battle with Karl Enander of Cal Poly before ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.

In doubles competition, the Aztec pairing of Goles-Babic and Ianakiev, who were seeded eighth, dismissed the Hawai'i duo of Marcel Chan and Igor Kolaric, 8-2, in their round of 32 clash, but were unable to sustain the momentum in their next engagement, as the Cal Poly tandem of Garrett Auproux and Timothy Tan turned the tables with an 8-4 triumph. Likewise, the SDSU combo of Cevallos and Gjoels-Andersen was upended by the USC team of Forget and Logan Smith, 8-5.

The ITA Southwest Regional Championships continue on Saturday with two rounds of main draw singles, one round of main draw doubles and two rounds of consolation singles.
