SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team concluded its season-opening weekend on Sunday with just two players completing singles matches in the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco, Calif., and the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz.
In the Battle in the Bay, senior Marko Goles-Babic went to a tiebreaker in the first set of his semifinal match with USC's Robbie Bellamy, but ultimately fell, 6-4, 7-6(3). Later in the day, Bellamy captured the singles title with a three-set triumph over Ben Donovan of Cal Poly, 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-4.
In the Wildcat Invitational, meanwhile, freshman Joel Popov was the lone Aztec to see action in consolation play, dropping a straight-set decision to Wichita State's Eddie Stoica, 6-4, 6-3.
SDSU heads back to the courts next weekend when it travels to the Sooner State for the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 1-9, in Tulsa, Okla.
