Norfolk, Va. - The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced that four members of the 2015-16 San Diego State swimming & diving team have been named to its Scholar All-America team for this past season.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective diving qualifying meets.
CSCAA Scholar All-America honors went to senior Taylor Johnson, who was the Mountain West champion in the 50 freestyle and went on to compete at the 2016 NCAA Championships. She has also qualified for the U.S.A. Olympic Trials which get underway on Sunday, June 26, at the Century Link Center in Omaha.
Receiving Honorable Mention Scholar All-America honors were senior Natilee Ruiz and junior McKenna Garfein. Ruiz achieved "B" time standards in the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the 200 individual medley while Garfein recorded a "B" time in the 100 backstroke.
In addition, sophomore diver Payton Gabris competed in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events at the NCAA Diving Zone E Meet in Flagstaff, Ariz., as she also garnered Honorable Mention Scholar All-America accolades.
