Results

CLOVIS, Calif. - San Diego State's Kassidy Ellis and Karsen Sper are in fourth and sixth, respectively, after the first day of the heptathlon Wednesday at the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, Calif.

Ellis totaled 3,125 points after four of the seven events and sits in fourth place, while Sper amassed 3,039 points, good enough for sixth. Colorado State's Jessica Green leads the heptathlon with 3,347 points, followed by Nevada's Nicole Wadden (3,272), New Mexico's Samantha Bowe (3,166), Ellis, Colorado State's Monica Franco (3,083) and Sper.

The day started with the 100-meter hurdles, where Sper came in fourth in 14.28 seconds for 939 points and Ellis followed in fifth (14.44) for 917 points.

Next up was the high jump, led by Ellis in a tie for third with a mark of 5 feet, 5 ¾ inches (1.67m) for 818 points, while Sper tied for sixth at 5-03.25 (1.61m) for 747 points.

In the shot put, Ellis (34-04.25 (10.47m)) and Sper (32-11.75 (10.05m)) came in ninth and 10th, respectively, for 560 and 533 points.

Day one ended with the 200, where Ellis was fourth in 25.63 for 830 points and Sper finished eighth in 25.74 for 820 points.

The final day of the heptathlon starts at 4:30 p.m. PT Thursday with the long jump, followed by the javelin throw and 800.
