LA JOLLA, Calif. - Bonnie Draxler led a group of five pole vaulters in the top 10 for the San Diego State track and field team on the first day of the Triton Invitational Friday at UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif.

Draxler beat out 37 other entrants in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet, 7 ¼ inches (4.15m). She was followed closely by Marissa Berry (third) and Karen Snapper (fourth), who each vaulted 13-03.50 (4.05m). The 13-03.50 is tied for the 10th-best mark in program history and currently is enough for the NCAA West Prelims. Sara Curran, meanwhile, came in sixth in a personal-best mark of 12-05.50 (3.80m), while Katherine Magill tied for eighth in 11-11.75 (3.65m).

Former Aztec Kortney Ross, meanwhile, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the pole vault at a OTC qualifier with a mark of 14-05.25 (4.40m). Former San Diego State athletes who have now qualified for the trials include Ross and Kristen Brown in the pole vault, Whitney Ashley in the discus throw and Allison Reaser in the heptathlon. Current SDSU athlete Ashley Henderson has made it in both the 100 and 200, and former great Shanieka Thomas currently leads the world in the triple jump while representing Jamaica.
