LA JOLLA, Calif. - The San Diego State track and field team won seven individual events en route to a team title at the California Collegiate Invitational Saturday at UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif.

The Aztecs finished with 178.50 points, outdistancing runner-up and host UCSD (140) by 38.50 points. USC (92.50), Azusa Pacific (70.50) and Williams (65.50) rounded out the top five of the 13-team meet.

SDSU won four events on the track - 100, 200, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles - and three field events - pole vault, long jump and triple jump.

On the track, Starlynn Singleton captured the 100-meter dash title in 11.80 seconds, while Simone Glenn took home first-place honors in the 200 in 24.06. San Diego State also swept the hurdle events with Sierra Brabham-Lawrence winning the 100 hurdles in 13.45 and Madison Gipson taking down the 400 hurdles in 1:00.02.

Jazmen Bunch was second in both the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.14), while Tyra Lea came in second in the 400 in 55.40. Ellison Grove, meanwhile, finished second in the 800 in 2:08.84, the eighth-fastest time in school history.

Gipson added a runner-up finish in the 100 hurdles (13.80) as the Aztecs took seven of the top eight places in the event.

Other top-five finishes on the track came from Lakin Hatcher in the 400 (third, 56.35), Courtney Robinson in the 100 hurdles (third, 13.93), Lisa-Anne Barrow in the 200 (fourth, 24.88), Glenn in the 400 (fourth, 56.39), Karsen Sper in the 100 hurdles (fourth, 14.40), Brabham-Lawrence in the 400 hurdles (fourth, 1:05.12) and Elaine Ribeiro in the 1,500 (fifth, 4:40.29).

Bonnie Draxler led the pole vaulters to a 1-2-3-4 finish by winning the event with a vault of 13 feet, 1 ½ inches (4.00m).

Jelena McNown, meanwhile, captured the long jump with a leap of 19-00.50 (5.80m) and Je'Neal Ainsworth won the triple jump at 39-09.75 (12.13m).

Marissa Berry (13-01.50 (4.00m)), Karen Snapper (12-07.50 (3.85m)) and Courtney Jackson (12-01.50 (3.70m)) were the aforementioned 2-3-4 finishers behind Draxler in the pole vault.

In the discus throw, Rachel Alesi was second with a heave of 179-11 (54.89m), good enough for the sixth-best throw in program history. Alexa Evans (173-05 (52.86m)) and Anushi Desai (147-01 (44.84m)) followed in third and fourth, respectively.

Coryne McKenney added a second-place showing in the shot put at 36-08.25 (11.18m), while Victoria Dickerson (174-03 (53.11m)) and Freja Liljedahl (173-06 (52.90m)) were third and fourth in the hammer throw. Dickerson's mark of 174-03 ranks as the fifth-best throw in school history. Kassidy Ellis also came in fourth in the high jump, clearing 5-04.25 (1.63m).

SDSU is back in action on April 13 at the Mt. SAC/CA heptathlon.
