CA INVITE HEPTATHLON RESULTS | BRYAN CLAY INVITE RESULTS

Karsen Sper finished 21st in the heptathlon at the California Invitational to lead San Diego State Thursday at Azusa Pacific's Cougar Athletic Stadium in Azusa, Calif.

Sper moved up two spots on the final day, finishing 21st out of 51 entrants with 4,849 points. Texas A&M's Annie Kunz won the event with 5,904 points.

"Karsen was just short of her PR (personal record) (4,863), but had two personal bests today," head coach Shelia Burrell said. "She is primed to go over 5,000 points at the conference championships."

Sper started day two with a 20th-place effort in the long jump, leaping 17 feet, 7 ½ inches for 663 points. In the javelin throw, Sper came in 25th with a toss of 97-05 (29.69m) for 471 points. Sper ended the day with a 21st-place showing in the 800-meter runs in 2 minutes, 22.14 seconds.

Meanwhile, former Aztec NCAA runner-up and current volunteer assistant coach Allison Reaser qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the event, taking third in the Mt. SAC Relays Heptathlon with a personal-best mark of 5,990. She moved all the way from seventh on Wednesday to third today.

"What a PR from Allison today," Burrell said. "She can buy her ticket to the trials (by breaking 5,900 points). She almost got to 6,000 points after running (2:13.31) in the 800. I'm excited to see what she does at the trials."

In the 5,000 at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Elaine Ribeiro came in fourth out of 28 runners in the fourth heat in 17:39.75. Lily Seynaeve (17:50.94) and Grace Hanshaw (18:18.26) came in seventh and 23rd, respectively.

The long jump and pole vault starts things off for SDSU on Friday at 9 a.m. PT with the track events getting underway at 10:10 a.m. PT. The 1,500 closes the meet for the Aztecs at 7:30 p.m. PT.
