SAN DIEGO - Three San Diego State track and field athletes won individual events on the second day of the 38th annual Aztec Invitational Friday at AzTrack on SDSU Sports Deck. The three victories came from Ashley Henderson in the open 100-meter dash, Sierra Brabham-Lawrence in the open 100-meter hurdles and Je'Neal Ainsworth in the open triple jump.
Henderson won the open 100 in a wind-aided time of 11.72 seconds, while Brabham-Lawrence ran away with the 100 hurdles, clocking a time of 13.65.
Jasmine Young was the runner-up finisher in the open 400 hurdles in 1:04.08, while Lakin Hatcher (56.72) and Madison Gipson (14.00) came in third in the 400 and 100 hurdles, respectively.
Other top-10 finishes on the track came from Starlynn Singleton in the open 100 (fourth, wind-aided 12.31), Tyra Lea in the open 200 (fourth, 24.79), Courtney Robinson in the open 100 hurdles (fourth, 14.13), Elaine Ribeiro in the invitational 3,000 (fifth, 10:05.21), Lisa-Anne Barrow in the open 200 (sixth, 24.93), Ainsworth in the open 100 hurdles (ninth, 15.07) and Ellison Grove in the 1,500 (10th, 4:37.90).
Ainsworth, meanwhile, also captured the open triple jump title with a leap of 40 feet, 9 inches (12.42m). The mark is the ninth best in school history.
Jelena McNown and Singleton took second and third, respectively, in the open long jump with leaps of 18-10.00 (5.74m) and 18-02.50 (5.55m).
Fresh off a school record last week in the hammer throw, Freja Liljedahl was seventh in the invitational event today in 168-08 (51.43m) with Victoria Dickerson right behind in eighth in 167-03 (50.98m).
Marissa Berry (eighth, 12-08.25 (3.87m)) and Sara Curran (ninth, 12-04.50 (3.77m)) also logged top-10 finishes on the open pole vault.
The final day of the Aztec Invitational gets underway at 9 a.m. PT Saturday with the girl's shot put. The college events start at 9:35 a.m. PT with the women's invitational 4x100-meter relay and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5 p.m. PT.
