LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior Taylor Johnson had a hand in a pair of pool records to help the San Diego swimming and diving team to a pair of victories in a double dual meet at UCSD's Canyonview Aquatic Center Sunday afternoon. The Aztecs recorded wins over San Jose State (167-129) and Incarnate Word (222-70) as they improved to 10-1.

Swimmer and divers from UC San Diego also participated, but SDSU did not compete or score the meet against the Tritons after facing them in dual meet action on Saturday.

Johnson's record-setting day began with a win in the 50 freestyle. After tying the Canyonview pool record on Saturday with a time of 23.02, she re-set the record on Sunday when she went 22.90. Johnson also swam the leadoff leg (23.03) on SDSU's winning 200 freestyle relay squad that ended the meet with another pool record (1:33.85). She was joined on that relay quartet by Whitney Weisz, Savannah Miller and Cailey Steffens. In addition, Johnson captured second in the 100yard freestyle race in a time of 51.43.

A pair of Aztec swimmers notched two victories apiece in individual events. Weisz took first place in both the 100 freestyle (51.22) and 200 freestyle (1:51.56) while freshman Rachael Kelch won the 200 butterfly (2:04.14) and 400 individual medley (4:26.59) races.

Summer Harrison was also an individual winner for San Diego State as she captured the 100 butterfly in 56.06. She was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay squad that led off the day's events. Along with Natilee Ruiz, Cecilia Zaccarelli and Savannah Miller, the quartet turned in a winning time of 3:50.52.

During the met SDSU swimmers won six individual events and both relays, capturing the top three spots in two races. In the 50 free, Johnson was followed by Weisz (23.88) and Steffens (24.27) while the 100 free saw Weisz and Johnson finish one-two with Miller (51.95) in third.

San Diego State also picked up a win in diving as Alexandra Caplan won the 1-meter springboard with a score of 284.45. Teammates Payton Gabris (251.50) and Nicole Dutton (239.45) finished third and fourth respectively in a field of 15 competitors.

Caplan also place second on the 3-meter board with a score of 300.65 that was less than two points behind the vent winner. Dutton (248.80) was third with Gabris (232.95) taking fourth among 14 divers.

The San Diego swimmers and divers will next be in action together for the team's final dual meet of the season against the University of San Diego on Friday, Jan. 22, at noon at the Aztec Aquaplex.

The Aztec divers, however, will have a meet prior to that date when they travel to Los Angles for the Bruin Diving Invitational at UCLA during the weekend of Jan. 15-17.
