LOS ANGELES - San Diego State sent a pair of divers to the finals of the 3-meter board competition on Saturday during day two of the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational. The three-day meet is being hosted by UCLA at its Spieker Aquatics Center.
Included in the field for the 3-meter event was a total of 41 athletes from UCLA, USC, Cal, Utah, San Jose State and UC Davis as well as SDSU.
For the second day in a row, sophomore Alexandra Caplan led the Aztecs as she placed 10th after the final round. Her score of 272.85 in the prelims allowed her to finish ninth to qualify for the finals. Her mark of 292.70 in the final round gave her a total of 563.55 on the day.
The event was won by UCLA's Maria Polyakova, who had captured the 1-meter title on Friday, with a score of 639.95.
Makena Chamoures was SDSU's second diver to advance to the finals after she placed 13th in the prelims with a score of 266.85. Her mark of 282.25 over the six dives of the final round moved her into the 12th spot with a total of 549.10.
Also competing for San Diego State were Nicole Dutton, who scored 233.65 to finish 25th, and Payton Gabris, whose mark of 214.30 placed her 34th.
Competition at the Bruin Diving Invitational concludes on Saturday (Jan. 17) with prelims on the platform board scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
