SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team hosted another highly-attended Red-Black Intrasquad/All-Comers Meet on Dec. 5 atop Aztrack Sports Deck. A total of 341 athletes, ranging from ages 6 to 80, entered to compete on Saturday which set a new participation record since the start.
In addition to providing the local track and field community an opportunity to compete side-by-side with NCAA Division I athletes, the meet also kicks off the 2016 indoor track season for the Aztecs. The San Diego State squad was broken into Red and Black teams that competed for bragging rights heading into the winter break and indoor track and field season. For the fourth-straight year, the "Black" group won over the "Red" group, 72 to 64.
SDSU wins on the day came from Bonnie Draxler in the pole vault (12-11.50 (3.95m)), Micha Auzenne in the high jump (5-05.00 (1.60m)) and 60-meter dash (7.33 +1.6), Rachel Alesi in the shot put (46-06.00 (14.17m)), Alexa Evans in the discus throw (161-07 (49.26m)), Jelena McNown in the Long Jump (18-01.00 -1.1 (5.51m), the Red 4x200-meter relay composed of assistant coach Allison Reaser, Je'Neal Ainsworth, Kira Moreland and Ashley Henderson in 1:35.80, Ellison Grove in the 1,000 (2:59.29), Ashley Henderson in the 150 (17.37 +0.6), Elaine Ribeiro in the 3,000 (10:34.57) and the Black 4x400-meter relay team of Tyra Lea, Madison Gipson, Lakin Hatcher and Draxler in 4:03.90.
San Diego State is coming off a successful 2015 season, finishing third at the Mountain West Outdoor Championship in its last meet as a team on May 16.
The Aztecs officially kick off their 2016 campaign at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Jan. 15.
