SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Diego State won 11 of 14 swimming events en route to defeating Cal Poly, 161-108, Friday morning at the Anderson Aquatic Center in San Luis Obispo. With the victory, the Aztecs improved to 5-1 on the season and provided Head Coach Mike Shrader with win number 199 in his 17-year career.

Three SDSU swimmers captured two individual events apiece led by senior Whitney Weisz. She took first in both the 100 freestyle (52.02) and 200 freestyle (1:52.15) races and was also a member of the winning 400 free relay squad. She was joined by Taylor Johnson, Summer Harrison and Savannah Miller in turning in a time of 3:30.70 to place first in that event.

Fellow senior Natilee Ruiz also won a pair of individual races including the 100 backstroke (57.48) and 200 backstroke (2:03.10). Freshman Rachael Kelch captured top honors in both the 200 butterfly (2:03.26) and 200 individual medley (2:06.48).

Other Aztec individual race winners included Johnson and Harrison. The former won the 50 freestyle in 23.68 while the later took the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.24. Both athletes were also members of SDSU's winning 200 medley and 400 free relay squads.

In addition, Cecilia Zaccarelli claimed first place in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:04.83. She also helped San Diego State get the meet off on a positive note as part of the winning 200 medley relay team in the day's opening event.

In the diving, sophomore Payton Gabris finished second on both boards with scores of 243.75 on the 1-meter and 216.37 on the 3-meter.

The San Diego State swimming and diving team will now take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Saturday, Jan.2, for a triple dual meet against UNLV, Grand Canyon and UC San Diego. Competition is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m. at UCSD's Canyonview Aquatic Center in La Jolla.
