SAN DIEGO - Former San Diego State men's tennis standouts Hunter Nicholas and Javier Pulgar have been representing the Scarlet and Black on the ITF Pro Circuit, collecting seven titles between them since 2014.
Upon graduating in 2014, Nicholas has won five doubles titles and currently has a No. 371 world doubles ranking. He secured victories at futures in Costa Mesa, Calif., Calabasas, Calif., Harlingen, Texas, Richmond, British Columbia and Charlottesville, Va., and advanced to the finals at futures in Claremont, Calif., and Vancouver, British Columbia.
During his four-year Aztec career, Nicholas a three-time All-Mountain West Doubles honoree and an All-Mountain West Singles player his senior season, amassing a 52-46 mark at San Diego State.
Pulgar has advanced to two singles finals and 10 doubles finals at futures since 2012, capturing doubles titles in 2014 in Bahrain -- with his twin brother Jaime - and in Portugal earlier this year. After advancing to both the singles and doubles finals at a futures event in Gabon this September, he earned his highest career singles and doubles ranking at 503 and 461, respectively.
Following his senior season in 2012, the Madrid, Spain native was the first ITA Southwest Region Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award in school history, capping off his time on the Mesa with a Mountain West Player of the Year title and a 12-9 record in dual match play, which included two wins over nationally ranked opponents.
San Diego State kicks off its 2016 dual match season with the National Collegiate Tennis Classic Jan. 15-17 in Palm Desert, Calif.
